The values of the velocity score range from less than 2 km h−1 (brown) of velocity score up to more than 17 km h −1 (purple), whereas the sociality score ranges from less 0.05 millions of inhabitants reachable up to more than 3 millions of individuals. In the six maps of panel (a) we report the velocity score in km h −1 and in (b) the sociality score in millions of inhabitants for six different cities: Paris, New York, Madrid, Montreal, Sidney and Boston. Of the 50 cities included in the analysis, some of the least desirable relocation spots include Johannesburg, South Africa Frankfurt, Germany and Paris, France thanks to demanding work cultures and high costs of living.Maps of the velocity score and the sociality score. The survey, conducted in February 2022 and released this week, asked expats to rate their satisfaction across five main categories, including quality of life (like a healthy environment and robust public transit), ease of settling in (such friendliness of local residents), personal finance (such as access to affordable health care), working abroad (such as job security and a stable local economy), and "expat essentials," which covers digital life, housing options, language barriers, and dealing with local government and administrative tasks. 72% are happy with the quality of medical care.62% are happy with their work-life balance.
